REGIONAL NEWS: Flooding kills 1, affects 12,263 families in Cagayan and Isabela

TUGUEGARAO CITY — The flooding caused by monsoon rains in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela has affected 15 municipalities with 12,536 families or 76,145 persons, leaving one dead and one missing.

DSWD information officer Angely Lubo reported that Jose Quirabo, 36, from San Pablo, Isabela, was declared dead due to drowning, while Eugenio Alonzo from Benito Soliven town was declared missing.

Earlier, the regional disaster risk reduction management council of Region 2 issued warnings to the public of the possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides due to the continuous heavy downpour of rains in the region. Magat dam gates were opened yesterday as the water have already reached the critical level.

Lubo said barangays that are usually flooded in the two provinces are already under water and 168 families are now staying in 12 evacuation centers.

Officials are also constantly monitoring the water level in the Buntun bridge which is the basis in determining the extent of floods in this city and in nearby provinces. To date, the water level has already reached 11 meters which is near the critical level of 13 meters.#
