Folayang retains ONE Lightweight World Crown with unanimous decision over EV Ting

MANILA – Eduard Folayang successfully defended his ONE Lightweight World crown at the Mall of Asia Area, here on April 21.

Folayang, an Igorot Mixed Martial Arts artist from Team Lakay defeated Malaysian contender Ev Ting with a unanimous decision to retain his crown.

[This fight] means a lot. A lot of you [fans] were discouraged the last time I was here, I slept on that mat. I rose up from my circumstances. I needed to train a lot to improve a lot. This is it on my shoulder. Thank you for your support,” Folayang said after the bout.

Meanwhile, four members of Team Lakay also emerged victorious on the undercard .

Team Lakay Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon scored a verbal tapout over the taller Finnish kickboxing sensation Toni “Dynamite” Tauru in the first round to win in the Bantamweight division.

Resurgent lightweight contender and former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario stopped newcomer Jaroslav Jartim with a devastating left hook that knocked the Chech out cold.

Team Lakay top flyweight prospect Danny “The King” Kingad out-muscled Malaysian opponent Muhammad Aiman to win by unanimous decision after three fierce rounds.

Team Lakay lady striker Gina “Conviction” Iniong won by unanimous decision over Filipino-English fighter Natalie “The Kilapino” Gonzales Hills in the Women’s Atomweight division.

But Indonesian standout Stefer Rahardian dominated unorthodox Filipino striker Eugene Toquero to win the Flyweight bout via unanimous decision after three rounds of action.

In the other bouts, 18-year-old Christian Lee. “The Warrior” pounded Chinese featherweight “The Werewolf” Wan Jian Ping in Round 1to win by TKO in the Flyweight division.

Eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Michelle Nicolini of Sao Paulo, Brazil defeated previously unbeaten Irina Mazepa of St. Petersburg, Russia. by submission (armbar) in Round 1 to win in the Women’s Catchweight division.

Nineteen-year-old Chinese bantamweight prospect “The Stalker” Xie Bin won over Cambodian Khun Khmer specialist Chan Rothana by submission.

In the opener, Filipino fighter Robin Catalan emerged victorious by split decision over Jeremy Miado in the Strawweight division.#
