LAOAG, Ilocos Norte – The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has officially launched the opening of a series of Christmas events dubbed as ‘Paskua Mi Ditoy,’ a month- long celebration which underscores the customs and traditions of the Ilocanos in celebrating Christmas.
The launching was highlighted by lighting up the 45-foot Christmas tree displayed in front of the Ilocos Norte provincial capitol last December 8.
Compared to last year’s usual Christmas lights and decorations, the provincial government, this time, illuminated the facade of the capitol of various environment- friendly light emitting diode (LED) bulbs and lanterns made of local raw materials.
During the lighting ceremony, Gov. Imee R. Marcos turned on the switch of the 45-foot green fir tree into a light- adorned wonder right in front of the Ilocos Norte provincial capitol stage which awed the crowd.
In her short message, Gov. Marcos stressed on the significance of Christmas to every Ilocano. She said that the season is all about love, care, and affection in every family as well as joy and peace on earth.
“Ngayong pasko, nawa’y lahat ay maging masaya at ang mundo manatiling mapayapa lalo na sa pinakamamahal nating probinsya. Sa panahong ito, sana ay pag-ibayuhin pa natin sa ating mga puso ang pagmamahal sa mga magulang, kapatid, at sa bawat miyembro ng ating pamilya at sama-sama tayo na mag-aabang sa mas maganda pang kinabukasan,” Marcos added.
The MMSU-CIT Choral group entertained the crowd with Christmas songs during the short program while Ira Cadiz, the champion of Bacarra Got Talent, showcased scores of lively performances to the delight of the listeners.#
