High ranking communist rebel nabbed in La Union

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, San Fernando City – A high-ranking official of the local communist group here was captured by a joint team of law enforcers at Barangay Ortiz, Naguilian, La Union early afternoon of July 21.

In his report to Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), Police Senior Superintendent Ramon Purugganan, La Union police director, identified the captured rebel as Gloria Floresca, alias Eloy/Glorie, 48 years old, and listed as the No. 3 ranking official of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) EXECOM, and the head of its Finance Bureau.

Floresca was nabbed at about 12:45 p.m. by the combined elements of the Intelligence Branch of the La Union Police Provincial Office , Baguio City Police Office, 1st Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (RCIDU1), Regional Intelligence Office 1 (RIO1), and Naval Intelligence Security Group-Northern Luzon (NISG-NL), all led by Police Superintendent Jacquelino S. Lagiwid, chief of the La Union PPO Intelligence Branch.

Floresca was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for the crime of rebellion (Criminal Case No. 968-T), issued by Judge Melanio C. Rojas, Jr. of Regional Trial Court Branch 2,5 Tagudin, Ilocos Sur with no bailbond recommended for her temporary release.

The captured rebel was brought to the La Union PPO for documentation after undergoing medical examination at the Regional Health Service 1 here at Camp Florendo prior to her turnover to the proper court.

Bucayu said that the arrest of Floresca is a major achievement in the PNP’s campaign against insurgency, and commended the arresting personnel for their laudable accomplishment.#
