HUG-A-TREE CHALLENGE. Members of the mountaineering group Amianan Outdoor Recreation including one young boy respond to the #hugatreechallenge challenge initiated by Ballog Adventures, a Facebook community of Ilocanos focused on environmental protection, by hugging one of the century-old acacia trees that is scheduled to be cut down by the Department of Public Works and Highways as part of the clearing operation along the expanded Manila North Road. Last September, the DPWH and the Ilocos Sur Provincial Board Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, chaired by SPM Christopher Baterina, agreed to suspend tree-cutting unless the road has been cleared of all other obstructions and not to remove trees beyond the distance of 6.7 meters from the centerline.
