Ilocos Sur town imposes liquor ban during community quarantine

MAGSINGAL, Ilocos Sur — The municipality of Magsingal has implemented a temporary liquor ban for the duration of the community quarantine due to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In Executive Order (EO) No. 14 series of 2020, Mayor Victoria Ina Favis ordered the temporary prohibition of the sale, distribution and consumption of intoxicating beverages such as beers, liquors, wines and the like, until such time that the community quarantine is lifted.

“There is a need to control the sale and consumption of intoxicating substances in the municipality to ensure and promote health and safety, maintain peace and order, and preserve the comfort and convenience of the inhabitants during the community quarantine,” the EO reads.

The EO further said that the PNP-Municipal Police Station and Punong Barangays are deputized to take into custody persons who are caught drinking intoxicating beverages and/or intoxicated until they gain sobriety.

Earlier, Mayor Favis also issued a health announcement stating the locked down of Magsingal District Hospital to be utilized solely for the monitoring of persons under investigation (PUIs) in the first district of Ilocos Sur.

Other health concerns are catered by the Ilocos Sur Provincial Hospital-Gabriela Silang and Sinait District Hospital.

The Mayor said the municipal government, through the Rural Health Unit, will continue to cater the health concerns of the municipality as they shall be temporarily housed at the Senior Citizens Center in Barangay San Vicente.

She also appealed for the cooperation and help of the residents in addressing the COVID-19 threat and in this time of public health emergency.
