ISur’s Tagorda wins OKOR council slot; CA justice, new supreme commander

MANILA – Another Ilocano occupies the Supreme Council of the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR), a non-profit, service-oriented international organization named after the country’s national hero.

Marlon Tagorda of the office of the vice governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Sur has won a slot in the supreme council of the OKOR in a general assembly attended by more than 300 Knights of Rizal electorates at the Manila Hotel, May 27, 2018.

Tagorda of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur will carry on the tradition of Ilocos Surians who have occupied a position in the organization after Vice Governor Jerry “Jeremias” Singson served as the supreme commander (2014-2016) and Enrie Mendoza (2016-2018) as a member of the 9-man supreme council. Tagorda is formerly the North Luzon Area Commander for Regions 1, 2 and CAR. He and the other members of the supreme council will serve until 2020, the scheduled date of the next biennial elections.

Meanwhile, Court of Appeals Justice Elihu Ybañez won the board post-election as the new OKOR supreme commander replacing retired Chief Justice Renato Puno whose term just expired. Ybañez garnered 261 votes but second only to Lutgardo Barbo with 287 votes. Tagorda is 6th with 170 votes.

The complete set of elected OKOR officials and their council positions are: Elihu Ybañez, supreme commander; Lutgardo Barbo, deputy supreme commander; Allan Rellon, chancellor; Mark Roy Boado, pursuivant; Frisco San Juan, exchequer; Marlon Tagorda, auditor; Avelino Torres, archivist; Francis Sison, deputy pursuivant and overseas representative and Bernie de Mesa, deputy exchequer. Most of them are businessmen and executives while Barbo currently works as senate secretary. Rellon is the mayor of Tagum City.

Former deputy commander Diosdado Santos and supreme councilman Rey Malig did not make it this time. (EDWARD B. ANTONIO)
