Beneficiaries of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Ilocos Norte have merrier and meaningful Christmas, as the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has given their early yuletide presents through the MDG Christmas Caravan.
Now on its third year, the caravan visited all the towns in the province and gave Noche Buena packages to 3,504 MDG recipients across the province to make sure that they will have joyful Christmas.
The first leg of the caravan kicked off in Nueva Era, Banna, Marcos, Dingras on December 14, followed by Pagudpud, Bangui, Dumalneg, and Pasuquin on December 15, then Pinili, Currimao, Paoay, and Batac City on December 16.
The caravan’s next stop was Bacarra, Vintar, Piddig, Carasi, and Solsona on December 19, and Badoc, San Nicolas, Sarrat, and Laoag City on December 20.
The 5-day distribution of packages targetted to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in the province as part of Governor Imee R. Marcos’ MDG commitments since she assumed office in 2010 and set aside P77 million from the provincial funds.
The setting of Millennium Development Goal was signed on September 2000 by member-states of the United Nations including the Philippines to eliminate extreme poverty worldwide until 2015.
The MDG office in Ilocos Norte was established in September 2010 to step up activity at all levels to achieve its goals particularly in eradicating poverty and hunger in the province.
The MDG council of Ilocos Norte is composed of the offices of the provincial budget, provincial treasurer, provincial agriculture, veterinary, and the provincial social welfare and development office. (From the report of Rey T. Arcangel, Jr., PGIN-CMO)
