DAGUPAN CITY — The National Food Authority (NFA) increased the buying price for palay or unmilled rice to P19 per kilogram (kg) from P17, while also removing add-on incentive payments under the old scheme.

The old incentive scheme includes payments of P3 per kilo as a buffer stocking incentive, P0.20 for drying, a further P0.20 for delivery, and a P0.30 cooperative development incentive fee for qualified recipients.

Chona Maramba, assistant manager of NFA-Western Pangasinan, said that this year, they would buy dry and clean palay at a higher price of P19 a kilo, but the cash incentive would be dropped.

“With the palay support price of P19, farmers are assured of a better price for their produce,” she told the Philippine Information Agency.

She said the production cost of palay in the country is usually around P12 per kilo and with the new buying price, farmers will earn P7 compared to P5 in the old scheme.

Relative to this, farmers’ organizations/cooperatives and individual farmers may deliver their palay produce to the following warehouses: Alaminos GID Warehouse in Brgy. Pandayan, Alaminos City; Mangatarem GID Warehouse in Brgy. Umangan, Mangatarem; Ferrer Warehouse in Brgy. Maniboc, Lingayen; and Unique Warehouse in Brgy. Malabago, Mangaldan.

Meanwhile, NFA announced that effective September 13, 2019, the NFA selling price for the imported milled rice 25 percent broken, well milled rice for government agencies/private institutions is set at P27/kg from the previous P37/kg selling price.

Maramba also assured the public that all its rice stocks stored in strategically-located warehouses in Western Pangasinan are maintained in good condition at all times and ready for release for any emergencies.

She added that the NFA-Western Pangasinan will maintain a safe and sufficient buffer stock for its consumers and will continue to support the farmers through continuous buying of their palay produce.

For inquiries on the palay procurement, interested farmers’ organizations and individuals may contact NFA-Western Pangasinan office in Lingayen town at 542-4154 and 542-4366.
