NNC I starts evaluation of MELLPI, BNS

SAN FERNANDO CITY – The monitoring and evaluation of the Local Level Plan Implementation as well as the Barangay Nutrition Scholars have already started on March 24, 2014, Nutrition officials here have announced recently.

The monitoring and evaluation of the MELLPI and the BNS is primarily aimed to assess the progress of plan implementation, identify strengths and weaknesses in the implementation of the local nutrition program and institute appropriate corrective measures to facilitate the achievement of nutrition targets.

Conducted by the National Nutrition Council Region I together with the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) composed of member agencies of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC), this year’s MELLPI and BNS evaluation is scheduled to end on May 30, 2014.

So far, the evaluation of the MELLPI and the BNS have already been conducted in Alaminos City on March 24-25; Vigan City on March 27-28 (BNS evaluation only); and Ilocos Sur on March 31-April 4.

The evaluation team is scheduled to go to San Carlos City (Monitoring) on April 7-8; San Fernando City (April 10-11); Pangasinan (April 21-25); Candon City (April 24-25); Urdaneta City (April 28-30); La Union (May 5-9); Dagupan City (May 15-16); Batac City (May 19-20); Laoag City (May 21-23); and Ilocos Norte May 26-30).

Bangui town in Ilocos Norte is hopeful that this year, they will get the Green Banner Award for the third time to qualify for the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award, the next higher award being given by NNC to outstanding LGU nutrition implementers.

The officials of Vigan city led by Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina are also optimistic that Vigan City will sustain the CROWN Maintenance Award for another two years to bag the National Nutrition Award.

This activity will end with the recognition of the local government units with exemplary performance in nutrition program manage-ment and the recognition of barangay nutrition scholars who have rendered out-standing performance in the delivery of health and nutrition services in their respective barangays.

The awards will be pre-sented during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Cere-mony (RNAC) scheduled on September 2014.#
