SAN FERNANDO CITY – The government’s campaign to end insurgency in the Ilocos Region gained more ground with the surrender of another member of the underground movement to police authorities in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur on June 4.
Jordan Vasquez y Delos Reyes, 21, single and a resident of Barangay Remedios, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur gave himself up to Mayor Benjamin Maggay at 9:00 in the morning on said date.
Police Chief Supt. Franklin Jesus Bucayu said the series of surrender among the com-munist terrorist members and supporters denotes their dismay with the false promises of their leaders and the horrible lifestyle in the underground movement.
In 2009, two ranking members of the New Peoples’ Army Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) who are subjects of warrants of arrest by the local courts in this province surrendered to the local authorities.
Bucayu attributed the surrender of Vasquez to the massive information campaign and tactical operations conducted by anti-insurgency elements in the area with the active support and cooperation of the local government units and the community.
Bucayu encouraged other members and supporters of the New People’s Army to lay down their arms and return to mainstream society, even as he expressed gratitude to the people of Ilocos Sur for their unwavering support to the troops operating in the province.#
