NUTRITION CORNER: Spaghetti and pastas are rich sources of vitamins and minerals

Enriched spaghetti and pastasĀ  are good sources of B vitamins, and folic acid, and minerals such as iron, phosphorus, zince, copper, manganese and selenium.

B Vitamins contribute to the production of red blood cells and are responsible for creating energy to help us live normal and productive lives. B vitamins include B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cobalamin). Folic acid works along with vitamin B12 and vitamin C to help the body break down, use, and create new proteins. The vitamin helps form red blood cells and helps produce DNA, the building block of the human body, which carries genetic information.

Minerals, on the other hand, assist in the structure of the body, boost the immune system, and provide electrolytes which facilitate efficient muscle contraction and water balance. They also provide co-factors for various chemical reactions within the body, supporting metabolism and promoting hormone formation.#
