NUTRITION NEWS: NNC Region 1 joins DTI’s sponsored Food Fair

SAN FERNANDO CITY – As part of the observance of the 38th National Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme “Pagkain ng gulay, araw-araw itong ihain!” the National Nutrition Council, Regional Office I in partnership with DTI Regional Office I held a 5-day exhibit entitled “Bida sa Tag-ulan Diskwento Cum Food Fair” at CSI, The City Mall, in this city last July 19-23, 2012.

The exhibit featured indigenous products of La Union particularly favorite Ilocano foods like bagnet, Vigan longanisa,  bibingka, guapple, dragon fruit, organic salted eggs, chicharon, and sweets like pastillas,  polvoron, lengua de gato,  and panutcha, including some handicrafts as well as ornamental and flowering plants.

The NNC exhibit featured the containerized gardening of vegetables which were planted in recyclable materials like cans, plastic bottles and containers, the focus of this year’s Nutrition Month celebration.  Various nutrition-related IEC materials like posters, tarpaulins, leaflets, and brochures were available at the booth. Likewise, assorted vegetable seeds in packs sponsored by the Department of Agriculture (DA) were distributed to the public for free. The booth also showcased a display of food products with Sangkap Pinoy Seal, an advocacy to help promote consumption of fortified foods.

The exhibit also featured CSI’s value packs on basic grocery items commonly bought that were made affordable to the buying public. The grocery has a special lane in the supermarket section featuring Dagupan City Vice-Mayor Belen Fernandez’ Suking Tindahan Value Packs with the theme, “Presyong Mura, Presyong Kabaleyan Talaga”.

The Food Fair Exhibit as well as the Supermarket Section was opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by DTI Assistant Regional Director, Rosemarie Quitos together with Ms. Juliet Malong and NNC OIC Rose Lulu P. Pagaduan and the CSI City Mall, La Union Management Team.#
