VIGAN CITY – “One billion tourists, one billion opportunities” is the theme of the Tourism Week celebration this year as the nation expects a lot of economic development in all parts of the country like the Ilocos Region because of tourism.
Francis Astom, the tourism officer of this province, said that when this city became one of the New 7 Wonders Cities of the World on December 7, 2014, tourists stormed it and with the increased number of tourists came the economic upliftment of the residents’ lives.
So, to show how tourism developed in this city and the province, the Ilocos region celebration will be held in this World Heritage City on September 23-25.
The event will start with a tourism stakeholders grand parade on September 23, 7:00 AM, from the Provincial Capitol to the Vigan City Convention Center. The photo exhibit, showcasing all the irresistible features of the Ilocos, natural and man-made attractions, festivals, special events, foods and delicacies, will be opened after. The tourism convention that will follow will be punctuated by the tourism appreciation night.
On September 24, the Ilocos Region Tourism Frontliners Day assembly and orientation will be held at the Provincial Capitol hall. The tourism industry immersion will follow in the city’s tourist destinations and nearby towns. The day will end at Baluarte.
On September 25, the Ilocos region quiz bee will be held at the Vigan Convention Center, and winners of the photography contest will be announced.
City Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina and Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson are both thankful for another event that promotes the culture and heritage of the province and the World Heritage City, which will mean another step-up for the residents’ economy.#
