DAGUPAN CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) identified three towns and a city in Pangasinan under Category Orange or areas of immediate concern for the midterm polls.
Police Captain Ria Tacderan, information officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said these are the towns of Sto. Tomas, Sual and Urbiztondo and the city of Alaminos.
“They were placed under orange category as there is a history of intense political rivalry and possible existence of partisan armed groups in these areas,” she said during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas forum held at the PIA Pangasinan office here on Thursday.
Tacderan added that five municipalities and a city in the province were tagged under Category Yellow or areas of concern which include the towns of Balungao, Bani, Bayambang, Rosales, Umingan and the city of Urdaneta.
“These areas were categorized as orange and yellow so they will be provided with additional augmentation such as manpower, mobility and resources to prevent untoward incident to happen,” she added.
However, she clarified that there is no validated partisan armed groups existing in the province but labeling these areas is part of the precautionary and preventive measures to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
Tacderan bared that the province remains to be generally peaceful because it has no poll-related incident yet and the police aims that the trend will continue until the end of the election period.
“Alone, the Philippine National Police can do so little but with your support, we can do so much to maintain zero election-related incidents,” she said.
