Pangasinan councilor survives assassination attempt

STO. TOMAS, Pangasinan – A municipal councilor avoided an assassination attempt that took place 9 in the morning of October 4, 2018, in Sto Tomas, Pangasinan.

According to PSSupt Wilson Joseph F Lopez, Provincial Director, Pangasinan PPO, Ely Arciaga Ramos, 64, councilor of  Brgy. Poblacion East, just arrived in his residence when two unidentified suspects shot him twice from behind. Fortunately, Ramos was able to avoid the shots and the bullets merely scraped the left side of his body and right hand. Ramos ran to his house while the suspects immediately fled after the shooting. The victim was brought to Sto Tomas Municipal Health Unit for medical treatment.

Ramos is allegedly planning to run for mayor in the 2019 midterm elections.

The police recovered two pieces of empty shells of unknown caliber of firearm and one piece of slug from the crime scene.

PSSupt Herminio S Tadeo Jr, PRO1 Officer-In-Charge, ordered a dragnet operation to apprehend the suspects and instructed the thorough investigation of the incident. He also reminded all personnel to intensify proactive patrol in order to prevent the occurrence of same incident in the future. (TNM/PNP PRO1 PIO)
