Pangasinan detainee shot dead after grabbing firearm of police escort

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan – A detainee being transported in a PNP mobile patrol car was shot dead by the police when he allegedly grabbed and took possession of the service firearm of one of his police escorts. The incident happened along the national road of Brgy. Salay, Mangaldan, Pangasinan at 6:00 in the evening of October 2, 2018.

Police Superintendent Jay Benitez Baybayan, Chief of Police, Mangaldan Police Station, identified the victim as Klyd Doria Conde, a suspect charged for drug possession and illegal possession of unlicensed gun.

PSSupt Wilson Joseph F Lopez, Provincial Director, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said that while the PNP mobile car was traveling along the national road going back to the police station after the suspect’s inquest proceedings, Conde allegedly grabbed the issued firearm of one of the police escorts, PO2 Mar Joseph Briones. In the ensuing scuffle between suspect and police, several shots were fired from the gun grabbed by the suspect hitting the roof of the mobile car. Sensing danger to their lives, the second police escort, PO2 Dennis Cuison, shot the suspect hitting his body.

Conde was immediately brought to Mapandan Community Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
