LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Pangasinan students are set to face off in the annual “Padunungan” organized by the University of the Philippines Subol Society (UPSS)-Diliman and Baguio chapters from January 3 to 4, 2019 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.
“Padunungan” is an annual inter-campus competition among public and private elementary and secondary schools in Pangasinan which promotes academic excellence and advocates the local culture among the Pangasinense youth.
Among the competitions included in the “Padunungan” are poem writing, essay writing and poster making; and contests on debate, folk dance, impromptu speaking, poem recital, poster-cum-slogan making, quiz show, among others.
Program head Jhemar Munda Cruz said the UPSS was established in 1975 by UP students who hail from or have roots in Pangasinan.
Together, they organized the “Padunungan” which became an annual event that aims to give back service to the province in the sectors of education, sports and recreation, environment, youth empowerment, and social services.
It is now on its 39th year.
“Padunungan” is the fulfillment of the ‘subol,’ (the Pangasinan word for spring) that is within every member and embodies the group’s vision of an ideal education for all youth including the belief that education is not mere academics.
The 39th “Padunungan” has the theme, “Anchor: Strengthening Pangasinan identity amid fast change and development.” (April M. Bravo / PIA Pangasinan)
