DAGUPAN CITY– At least 148 families in two Pangasinan towns were given financial support to repair their homes damaged separately by whirlwinds and hailstorms.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) provided some P5,000 each to families in the towns of Bayambang and Urbiztondo whose homes were pounded on separate occasions in May and June.

PSWDO Chief Emilio Samson, Jr. said that Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. has approved the release of the financial assistance amounting to P740,000 from the province’s calamity fund to help the victims start again.

Samson said that whirlwinds destroyed the homes of 36 families in Bayambang town last May 3 while hailstorms damaged the homes of 112 families in Urbiztondo town last June 4.

He said at least 500 families also recieved relief goods distributed by the provincial government through the PSWDO.

Romy Abalos of barangay Dusoc in Bayambang said the financial aid would go a long way in restoring their homes.

“Malaking tulong ito para maipaayos namin ang nasirang bahay namin,” said Antonio Castro of barangay Malayo in Urbiztondo.

For its part, the provincial government has been conducting trainings on disaster preparedness through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Disaster management officials have reminded residents to stay alert in the face of calamities noting that the country has officially entered the storm season beginning July. (with reports from the Provincial Information Office)
