PGIN launches jobs website

LAOAG CITY – Following the success of the paperless job fair last April 29 and 30, 2014, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has launched a website for job seekers and employers  at the La Tabacalera Function Hall last June 5, 2014.

Nicole Rudio, Provincial Public Employment Service Office Manager said PESO spearheaded the jobs fair in line with Governor Imee Marcos’ Task Force Trabaho to make job searching and employment within the province easier through a more efficient and technologically-updated process.

“It is a job-matching website for provincial use. Job applicants can post their resumes or create their profiles on the website, and look for job vacancies. On the other side, employers can post their job vacancies in the website and at the same time  search and filter for resumes of applicants. All they have to do is register. And best of all, it’s free,” Rudio said.

With about 50 employers from various local companies in attendance, the launching showcased the said website with a live demonstration of step-by-step instructions on how to register and maximize its use.

Although non-registered online users can browse around the site and its contents, it is strongly recommended that they sign up for more access, to have more opportunities for employment, the PESO manager added.

“It’s our way of streamlining the job seeking process at PESO. As our core service, we liaise between job applicants and employers. Usually, the employers come to us to manually search for resumes. This time, we’re offering the same service online, available 24/7 and it’s bringing in more possibilities for both the employers and the applicants,” said Rudio.

It has been noted during the launching that the jobs website can also be accessed by users via mobile gadgets such as smartphones and tablets, aside from the typical computer desktops and laptops.

A mobile application version of the jobs website is also being considered to foster its expansion in the future.

In her State of the Province Address (SOPA) in 2013,  Governor Imee Marcos highlighted her constant support for the creation of more jobs for Ilocanos by saying that “only jobs can guarantee a permanent pathway out of poverty –  and our challenge today is to create stable, wage-paying quality jobs.”
