PIA opens 6th ASEAN info kiosk in Ilocos Sur

VIGAN CITY – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Region I has launched an information kiosk on June 29 at the Baluarte Zoo here to raise awareness and appreciation on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 and its benefits to the country and its people.

The unveiling of the PIA information kiosk took place at the entrance of the Baluarte Zoo led by provincial officials of Ilocos Sur and staff of PIA in the Ilocos.

PIA-1 Regional Director Jennilyne Role said the kiosk features information materials about ASEAN, including those from other national government agencies and local government units, to equip the public about the necessary information in line with the country’s hosting of the 50th ASEAN celebration this year.

Role said that the activity is part of the government’s continuing efforts to communicate pieces of information not only about the ASEAN but also to disseminate key government programs and projects to Filipinos down to the grassroots level.

She also shared that the kiosk will stay at the Baluarte Zoo until December this year to provide local and foreign visitors with the information services of the government, focused on the priority agenda and gains of ASEAN.

“Brochures, flyers, newsletters, and other information materials are available for free at the kiosk and anybody can pick and read them,” said Role.

As information empowers, PIA has already established info kiosks in key strategic areas nationwide to further advocate civic consciousness and knowledge and to encourage citizens from all walks of life to support the Philippines’ chairmanship to the ASEAN 2017.

In Region 1, five kiosks have already been established. Two are located at the Laoag International Airport in Ilocos Norte, one at the CSI Mall in San Fernando City, La Union and another kiosk is found at the Robinsons Place in Calasiao Pangasinan. The fifth kiosk is at the PIA Regional Office in La Union.

The regional director said the info kiosk that was launched in Baluarte is the sixth and that they are thinking of putting up more in other public places for wider dissemination.

Working on the theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World,” the Philippines takes the mantle of leadership in engaging the world, actively promoting the interests of ASEAN by empowering people through information. (Tawid News/From the report of  April M. Montes-Bravo, PIA 1, Ilocos Sur)
