PNP, AFP, COMELEC officials meet to ensure secure, safe May 2013 elections in Region

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – Top officials of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Commission on Elections met here on January 14 to discuss issues to ensure a clean, honest and safe elections in 2013.

During the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) Conference which  was hosted by the  Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) under the leadership of Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo C. Marquez, top PNP and AFP officials gave an update on the political situation in their respective areas of jurisdiction  while Atty. Noli R. Pipo,   Regional Election Director of Region 1, discussed pertinent Comelec resolutions and other related concerns.

PSupt Julius C. Suriben, Deputy Chief, Regional Intelligence Division briefed the attendees on Partisan Armed Groups (PAGs), loose firearms, criminal gangs, and wanted persons while Col. Jesus B. Sarsagat of the Philippine Army presented the situation on internal security.  Likewise, the Regional Special Operations Task Groups (RSOTGs) Commanders presented their concerns.

Pipo said that by virtue of COMELEC Resolution No.  9571, the military and police have been deputized as its partners in ensuring a safe elections in 2013.

Aside from the AFP and the PNP, the Comelec has also partnered with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in securing next year’s elections.

The AFP and the PNP had been partners in election since they are in charge of peace and order situation and implementation of gun ban during the elections.

During the open forum, various issues and concerns were tackled like the reshuffling of chiefs of police, conduct of checkpoints, total gun ban, augmentation of police troops to various places, among others.

“In this coming election, we want to have a unified effort so that we will have a different and peaceful one wherein all voters shall be safe and secured to make their own choices without intimidation, force, pressure or any violent acts which vitiates their free will.” General Marquez stressed.

The regional director also announced  that Police Senior Superintendent (PSSUPT) Gerardo Bulosan Ratuita took over as the new officer in charge (OIC) provincial director of Ilocos Norte.#
