PNP regional director orders creation of task force to probe Gayo shooting

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Region 1 police director ordered the creation of a special investigation task group (SITG)  to conduct an in-depth investigation into the shooting of Atty. Lazaro C. Gayo in Barangay Consolacion, Agoo, La Union October 29.

Gayo, 61, a resident of Barangay Garcia in Tubao town and a candidate for provincial board member was shot by an unidentified suspect while he was sitting inside the Posadas-Gayo Law office in Brgy. Consolacion. He suffered a  gunshot wound on right side of his body and he was brought to a nearby hospital for immediate medical treatment.

The suspect who was wearing white t-shirt immediately fled on board a motorcycle. He was described as 5’4″ in height, of medium built, about 35 years old, has short hair, and with brown complexion.

Police Senior Superintendent Ramon O. Purugganan, La Union police director, said the SITG Gayo was formed yesterday to conduct an in-depth   investigation and gather intelligence information related to the case.

The SITG Gayo is headed by the provincial director and under the supervision of PSSupt. Manolito C. Labador, Region 1 police deputy regional director for operations (DRDO).

PSSupt. Purugganan likewise added that La Union police is still conducting manhunt and dragnet operations against the suspect. Checkpoints were established in all possible exit routes and the nearby police provincial offices were also alerted on the said incident.

The police recovered from the crime scene two empty shells of caliber .45, a live ammunition and a deformed slug for the same caliber and submitted them to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 1 (RCLO1) for ballistics examination.#
