PANGASINAN – The PNP regional director has ordered the police here to conduct intensified checkpoints operations and stick to Comelec rules and regulations.
General Azares made a visit to the towns of Sual, Dasol, Burgos, Mabini, Bani, Bolinao, Anda, Labrador and Lingayen, and the city of Alaminos, all in Western Pangasinan on Jan. 19-20. He inspected the police stations, talked to his men and reminded them to strictly adhere to the Comelec rules on the total gun ban and the conduct of checkpoint operations.
The regional director also witnessed the turn-over of shotguns earlier issued by the provincial government of Pangasinan to the heads of barangays in line with an agreement made during a Comelec-PNP-AFP Joint Conference.
It was agreed in the said joint conference that the shotguns would be placed in the custody of police stations during the election period to preempt their possible illegal utilization especially in the identified election watchlist areas (EWAs).
“I want you all to follow and implement the existing Comelec rules, especially on the total gun ban, without fear or favor. Let us ensure peace and order and forestall the occurrence of any election-related violence in our areas of responsibility,” PCSupt Azares stressed.
Azares also conducted on-the-spot inspections of established checkpoints in the said towns and checked on the preparedness of the troops on the ground in the implementation of checkpoint operations.#
