SAN FERNANDO CITY – The Police Regional Office 1 here has put up nearly ten thousand checkpoints throughout the region to ensure peace and order in the area as the May 14 election approaches.
PNP Regional Director P/Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil said the Regional Election Monitoring Action Center (REMAC) here has recorded 9,518 police checkpoints within the region and confiscated 108 assorted firearms, 61 netted from election gun ban violators 41 from various raids with search warrants.
A total of 80 cases were already filed in court against the respondents, Bataoil said.
The PNP regional director also reported that the police have removed 17,050 illegally posted campaign materials: 5,588 in Pangasinan, 8,321 in La Union, 552 in Ilocos Sur and 2,589 in Ilocos Norte in line with the implementation of Operation Baklas.
Bataoil directed the provincial command to always keep their communications open, be alert, watchful and implement the gun ban strictly to ensure the safety of the candidates and come out with a realistic peaceful, orderly and honest elections.
Based on the REMAC scoreboard, the region has no case of dismantled private armed groups (PAGs) which Bataoil attributed to the diligent and proactive police intervention operations.
