PRC-Ilocos Sur to hold 5th Million Volunteer Run on Dec. 8

VIGAN CITY — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Ilocos Sur Chapter invites the public to participate in the fifth edition of the Million Volunteer Run (MVR) which will be held on December 8 in this city.

MVR is a humanitarian run that aims to raise funds to build the capacity of the 104 PRC chapters in the country by acquiring life-saving equipment, such as ambulances, boats, fire trucks, and rescue vehicles; as well as conducting first aid and disaster resilience trainings in communities.

The funds will also be utilized for the organization’s humanitarian interventions in areas hit by disaster and health emergencies.

Veronica Tactay, officer-in-charge administrator of PRC-Ilocos Sur Chapter, said the MVR will be held simultaneously starting at 5 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand and in multiple sites as supported by its local chapters nationwide.

“In Ilocos Sur, the local chapter targets to gather some 25,000 runners to join the MVR, which has two distances – 3k and 5k,” said Tactay during the Dap-ayan Ilocos Sur media forum of the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

Tactay said that if they will be able to meet the target number of participants, the local chapter, with the help of Red Cross national, can build a PRC building in the province which will benefit the people of Ilocos Sur and will improve the services of Red Cross.

“Registration free costs P700 inclusive of a drawstring bag, singlet and race bib. There is also a P300 registration fee but without a singlet and for participating students, they can register at P100,” she said.
