SAN FERNANDO CITY – Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque lauded the province of La Union during his visit here January 17.
In a press briefing held at the La Union Provincial Capitol in this city, Roque was impressed after Governor Francisco “Pacoy” Emmanuel R. Ortega III presented the province’s transformative governance, implementation of Performance Management System (PGS), and other accomplishments.
“Gov. Pacoy is truly one of the greatest governors and the province of La Union is one the greatest provinces that we have in the country today,” said Roque.
He added, “I would like to particularly commend the province of La Union for being one with the lowest poverty incidence.”
In his report, Ortega said that La Union is among the provinces that posted low poverty statistics in the country with only 9.2 percent poverty incidence rate.
Ortega also informed the Palace spokesperson of the excellent peace and order in the province which makes La Union insurgency-free.
Roque, in response, also shared that the Duterte administration hopes that all provinces will be like La Union – very low poverty incidence, no insurgency, and thriving in development.
“Truly, La Union is a model that all province in the Philippines should follow,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the press briefing attended by members of the media from Region 1, Roque reported some good news to include the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed recently by the City Government of San Fernando with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
“In line with President Duterte’s vow to provide accessible and fast internet connection in the Philippines, San Fernando was confirmed as one of the only two landing stations of the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure Project alongside Baler, Aurora,” Roque informed.
Roque said the “transformative project” is the first of its kind which aims to lower the cost of government Internet connectivity while providing an ultra-speed Internet backbone for the whole country by 2019.
Current national issues were also addressed by Roque in the said briefing.
