PRO1 activates disaster risk reduction, management plan

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) has set up measures to be executed during disasters and calamities in the region.

The disaster risk reduction and management plan which involves all PNP units in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), local government units, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Navy stationed in its area of responsibility has adopted a three-stage disaster preparedness and response operations, namely; Pre-Disaster Stage (Pro-active Assessment Stage); Disaster Response Stage (Disaster Incident Management); and Post-Disaster Stage (Support to Recovery and Rehabilitation Efforts) that would be set up before, during and after the region is affected by disasters and calamities like typhoons.

The plan is geared to lessen the effect of disasters if not to incur zero casualties in disaster –prone areas in partnership with the community.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils in the region, provinces and down to the municipal or city and barangay levels will be activated once the region is under storm signal and the entire police force in Region 1 police will be placed on full alert status and immediately implement the activation of Disaster Incident Management Task Groups (DIMTG) in areas expected to be hit by the weather disturbance twenty-four (24) hours prior to the expected landfall or occurrence.

Likewise, Police Regional Office 1 will conduct timely and rapid disaster response according to the needs in the disaster/calamity area such as search and rescue operation, evacuation and relief operation, emergency medical services, and security and traffic management operation in support and coordination with Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC).

Meanwhile, the Regional Tactical Operations and Intelligence Center (RTOIC) reported no flooded areas and casualties as the entire region was not heavily affected by typhoon Butchoy. #
