PRO1 director leads muzzle taping of cops’ firearms

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO — With barely five days before the final farewell to 2011, Police Chief Superin-tendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Region 1 Police Director, led the ceremonial taping of  firearms of the uniformed personnel of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) at the grandstand here December 27.

PCSupt. Bucayu said the sealing of the muzzles of the guns is in line with the directive of PNP Chief Police Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome to implement proactive mea-sures against indiscriminate firing of guns during revelries in order to prevent injuries and deaths.

“The taping of gun muzzle is simultaneously done all over the country to show to the public that the PNP is very supportive of the campaign against indiscriminate firing.  Actually, we invited guests from different government agencies and gun club associations to witness and see for themselves how we do this gun muzzle taping”, Bucayu added.

He also added that cooperative teamworks with other law enforcers were organized to ensure the safety of the community especially during the New Year’s celebration. He said, the local police and other law enforcement agencies are now conducting inspection on public markets and streets to make sure that there will be no illegal pyrotechnics being sold.

The Regional Director likewise stressed to his policemen to follow directives and ensure that Region 1 police will use their weapons properly. “Ang ating baril ay gagamitin lamang sa tamang paraan upang magligtas ang bawat karapatan at kapakanan ng ating mga mamamayan,” Bucayu added.

The sealing of firearms is an annual campaign of the PNP during holidays to ensure that policemen refrain from using their guns for merrymaking purposes.

Bucayu assured everyone that the campaign on Iwas Paputok is being carried out even as he reiterated his warning on the danger of illegal firecrackers and stray bullets, and further appealed to the public to help make the New Year celebration happy and safe.

Other guests who attended the ceremonial muzzle taping were Dr. Von Orias, Admi-nistrative Officer of the Department of Health Regional Office 1(DO_RO1); Dr. Cherry Mae Pocsidio, representative from Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC); Director Melchito Castro, Regional Director of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD); Director Edwin Joseph Edralin, Regional Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs- Region 1 (DFA-RO1); Mr. Cesar de los Reyes and Mr. Roel Perez both from 580th Gun Club.#
