SAN FERNANDO CITY – Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) will host the kick-off leg of “Takbo Maharlika, Tungo sa Pagkakaisa” in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on Monday, August 8.
Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, PRO1Regional Director, said the “Takbo Maharlika, Tungo sa Pagkakaisa” is a joint project of the Philippine National Police and Dilaab Foundation Incorporated that aims to run the 2700-kilometer stretch of Maharlika Highway (Asian Highway – AH26) from Laoag City to Zamboanga City.
“The Region 1 police will be the first to host this project, with its objective to initiate a fun and cool fitness project for all PNP personnel and interested citizens with the aim to bring about a national culture of fitness,” he added.
The said run will symbolically link the provinces and municipalities of the Philippines by running a marathon through the Maharlika Highway to showcase the culture and character of the Filipinos as a Maharlika (Noble) and Malakas (Strong), positive traits that encourage and foster national unity (Pagkakaisa).
The marathon will be headed by retired Police Chief Superintendent Samson R. Tucay, who is currently working as a consultant of the PNP Personnel Management Office, (PMO) and Father Carmelo O. Diola, the head steward of DFI.
The two runners will run daily for the next 7 to 8 months, enticing PNP personnel and other citizens to go into a personal self-imposed regular jogs/walks right in their respective communities or workplaces.
Starting from Laoag City, “Takbo Maharlika, Tungo sa Pagkakaisa” will run via Tuguegarao City passing Metro Manila, Bicol, Samar/Leyte Island, Surigao, Davao City, General Santos City, Maguindanao, Lanao, Zamboanga Del Sur ending in Zamboanga City.#
