SAN FERNANDO CITY – The Philippine National Police conducted the annual gun muzzle taping of guns issued to personnel of the Police Regional Office on December 14 to prevent indiscriminate firing during the holiday season.
Police Chief Superintendent Ericson T. Velasquez, acting police regional director, administered the ceremonial sealing of 350 firearms after the traditional Monday flag raising ceremony the PRO 1 grounds here.
“Today’s muzzle-taping is nationwide… it goes down to the regional, provincial offices down to the city and municipal police stations,” Velazquez said.
Velasquez said that the activity is in line with the directive of the PNP on indiscriminate firing and illegal discharge of firearms and in support to the “Iwas Paputok” campaign of the government.
“Let this taping become not merely ceremonial but in its essence to help make the Yuletide Season ultimately a happy and safe celebration,” the regional director said.
Velasquez also stressed that PRO1 will strictly implement the “Iwas-Paputok” campaign and make the necessary actions against violators.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Marlon Paiste, PNP public information office chief, said no incident of indiscriminate firing involving PNP personnel was recorded in two previous New Year revelries.#
