PRO1 to deploy 2700 cops for barangay and SK polls

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – The Police Regional Police 1 (PRO1) will deploy more than 2,700 policemen in 2,635 polling centers in the four provinces of Region 1 to ensure clean and orderly barangay and sangguniang kabataan (SK) elections on October 25.

PRO1 director Chief Superintendent Orlando M. Mabutas said his personnel will be posted before the 7:00 a.m. official opening of all the polling centers located in the different schools regionwide.

The police personnel will secure the election precincts while augmentation personnel will be utilized as additional forces outside the poll areas and to conduct foot and mobile patrols.

For the past weeks, PRO1 has coordinated with the local officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), military commanders in the area and other stakeholders to firm up preparations for the polls.

“We are doing all we can to ensure honest, orderly and peaceful elections this coming Monday. We have intensified checkpoint operations all over the region and have implemented in full swing the gun ban since the start of the election period,” Mabutas stressed.

Records show that Region 1 has a total of 19,544 polling precincts in 3,265 barangays.  The bulk of this comes from the province of Pangasinan with 11,113 polling precincts and 1,364 barangays.

The Region 1 police hosted the National Prayer for HOPE Bravo held at the PRO1 Chapel here last October 20.  The activity, which was done simultaneously in police regional offices nationwide, was attended by police, military and Comelec personnel in the region, and was officiated by local religious leaders.#
