PRO1’s anti-illegal drugs campaign levels up to Double Barrel-Alpha

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- To eradicate the illegal drug menace in the region, Police Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel, regional director, has ordered the intensification of its anti-illegal drugs campaign and the implementation of the Double Barrel Alpha down to the lowest police units.

Pimentel said that the Double Barrel Alpha has effectively enforced operations against illegal drugs as this is an extension and expansion of the Project: Double Barrel wherein focus has been shifted on the neutralization of high value targets (HVTs) involved in the illegal drug trades and drug clearing operations in all drug-affected barangays nationwide.

Barely a month since the implementation of Double Barrel Alpha on October 26, 2016, around 268 personalities involved in illegal drugs were arrested and one was killed in police operation.

Pimentel reported that the 180 drug personalities were arrested by the Pangasinan police, 66 in La Union, 11 in Ilocos Sur and 11 in Ilocos Norte.

For the same period, a total of 273,167 house visitations were conducted regionwide that resulted to the surrender of 963 drug personalities in Pangasinan, 137 in La Union, 50 in Ilocos Sur and 73 in Ilocos Norte or a total of 1,223 surrenderees. In support of the PNP’s war on drugs, the surrendered drug personalities signed a pledge of commitment and vowed to stop their illegal activities.

Pimentel stressed that the Double Barrel Alpha of the PNP is still anchored on Project HVT and Project Tokhang with Project HVT given much more concentration to disrupt drug routes and limit the use of the country as transshipment point of illegal drugs, while Project Tokhang is extended and expanded to visitations of schools, business establishments, subdivisions and condominium.

He added that Taphang or dialogue is employed to different strategic groups of people to persuade them not to use and/or push illegal drugs.#
