VIGAN CITY – A student of a public secondary school was honored and given cash incentive recently by the provincial board for garnering runner-up honors in a competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Jennifer Rebultan, a 4th year high school student of Ilocos Sur National High School was given recognition by the sangguniang panlalawigan during a regular session held at the provincial capitol here for winning 1st runner-up in the 3rd Asean Regional Quiz held on Sept. 16-22 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The provincial board with Board Member Jeremias “Jerry” Singson as presiding officer in lieu of Vice Gov. Deogracias Victor “DV” Savellano who was on leave of absence, also gave Rebultan P50,000 as incentive for “bringing honor to the province” in the said regional quiz.
Rebultan, together with two other national winners from the National Capital Region and Region 10, represented the country in this quiz competition participated in by 30 contestants from 10 member-nations in Southeast Asia.
Last August, Rebultan bested 16 contestants from 16 regions of the country to emerge national champion in the 3rd Asean National Quiz competiton held at NBN4, Quezon City.
For her feat, the provincial board passed a resolution of recognition and gave her P20,000 cash incentive.
The board also alloted P50,000 to defray the expenses of Rebultan and her coach and another official for the trip to Malaysia.
Before he presented Rebultan to the board, SPM Ronnie Rapanut, urged his colleagues to approve his resolution congratulating her townmate for winning in the 3rd Asean Regional Quiz and to appropriate P50,000 as her incentive “in order to encourage other students in the province to work hard and be (more) diligent in achieving their goals…”
For her runner-up finish in Kuala Lumpur, Rebultan received a trophy and $500.00 (P25,000).
