Region 1 cops nab 11 gun ban violators, confiscate 35 firearms

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- The Region 1 police has arrested eleven gun ban violators and confiscated 35 firearms in just more than two weeks after the Comelec imposed election gun ban last September 28, 2013.

Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo C. Marquez, Regional Director said that the violators were arrested and the assorted firearms were confiscated in various police operations and on-the-spot checkpoint operations from the four provinces of Region 1.

Marquez said that of the total number of violators arrested, nine were civilians, one (1) police (assigned with crime laboratory and one (1) government official while 26 short and 9 long firearms were confiscated.

The regional director also warned that police personnel found violating the gun ban will face administrative sanctions and their immediate superior  investigated.

“I relayed my warning to our personnel to be responsible enough and never be involved in gun ban violation; for sure our command will impose necessary actions against them,” he said.

Marquez said that not a single PRO1 personnel was reported to have violated the gun ban to date,” he added.

The gun ban is being implemented by the PNP and other law enforcement agencies from September 28 to November 12, which is 30 days before and 15 days after the barangay election on October 28.

The implementation of Comelec gun ban is intended to minimize violence during the campaign period.#
