SALCEDO, Ilocos Sur – Police officers from the Police Regional Office 1, Ilocos Sur Provincial Police Office and Salcedo Police Station held an outreach program in several barangays here last May 30 2014 as part of their program of bringing their service closer to the people, especiall the resi-dents in upland municipalities.
Initiated by the Regional Police Community Relations Division (RPCRD), the combined personnel visited the barangays of Baluarte, Buguibog and Kinmarin all in Salcedo town to provide community service and shared gifts to the residents.
Police Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix, PRO1 Regional Director, said the outreach program and visitation especially to far-flung places is conducted to strengthen the collaboration and partnership of the police with the community.
“Through this activity, the public will feel the presence and sincerity of the police in bringing services to the grassroots and to let the community see the human-itarian side of the police,” he added.
The activity is part of the PRO1’s program purposely to engage police personnel in community development and to encourage the community to maintain support and be more active partners in crime prevention.
Police Senior Supt. Rolie M. Saltat, Chief of RPCRD said at least 300 residents, mostly senior citizens, members of Barangay Peace-Keeping Action Teams (BPATs) and barangay tanods were given emergency kits while 100 daycare pupils received school supplies. Assorted used clothes from the different police units were also distributed to the residents.
Lectures on the roles of first responders and women and children in armed conflicts were conducted aside from distribution of flyers on the rights of a child and by lunch together with the elders.#
