Region I police intensifies drive vs partisan armed groups

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, San Fernando City – Five suspected members of partisan armed groups (PAGs) were neutralized following their arrest in several operations conducted recently by the regional police.

Chief Superintendent Constante D. Azares, Jr. identified the neutralized PAG members as Armando Flores and Nicolas Laroya, both from Pangasinan province, Alvin Uniag from Naguilian, La Union, Dennis Serquina and Warlito Roriquito, both members of the Alvin Flores Group, a notorious criminal gang.

Azares said Armando Flores, Nicolas Laroya, and Alvin Uniag were arrested.

Serquina and Roriquito were earlier arrested in October and December last year.

Region 1 police have already conducted a total 3,696 checkpoint operations; arrested 69 persons for violating the gun ban; and confiscated a total of 45 firearms, Azares also reported.

Azares said that in order to effectively address the issue of PAGs, the police regional office earlier organized 11Special Task Groups (STGs) to dismantle/neutralize the identified eleven PAGs within Region 1.

“For each identified PAG, we formed a task group to neutralize it,” he said even as he added that the STGs had drawn up case operation plans directed against the PAGs.”

“Our operatives are under-taking continuous intelligence monitoring of the PAGs’ activities in coordination with other intelligence units,” Azares stressed.

“Our stepped-up checkpoint operations also serve as pro-active measure against the PAGs. Their movements are now significantly restricted in view of the established checkpoints operating round-the-clock in the whole region,” the regional director added.

PCSupt Azares expressed confidence that the stringent security preparation being undertaken by PRO1 with the Comelec and AFP counterparts, coupled with the active support and involvement of other election stakeholders, will ensure honest, orderly and peaceful elections in Region 1.#
