REMEMBERING THE DEARLY DEPARTED. Cemeteries all over the the country came “alive” on Friday, Nov. 1, as Filipinos went in droves to visit their departed loved ones during the celebration of All Saints Day. At the Vigan City public cemetery (above), people squeezed in the tight spaces between the densely packed tombs and even climbed on top of them to offer flowers and candles to their deceased. Officials of the Catholic Church discouraged drinking and merry-making in the cemeteries but this has not stopped people from bringing food, tents and music and turning what is supposed to be a reflective religious occasion into a festive family reunion.
