SANTO CRISTO MILAGROSO. In celebration of the Lenten season, and as a religious response to the ongoing pandemic, a procession of the statue of Santo Cristo Milagroso was held last Apr 7 by motorcade. Starting in Lidlidda town in the morning, the statue traveled to Tagudin, then passed through the towns of Ilocos Sur along the Manila North Road on its way to Sinait. Devotees of El Santo Cristo Milagroso swear by his power to cure sickness. In 1756 and 1882, a plague spread through the community of Vigan, prompting the local church to “borrow” the statue from its location in Sinait town. After days of novenas to the saint, the plague reportedly stopped and the sick were miraculously healed. (screen grab of a live video stream from the Facebook page of Gov. Ryan Luis Singson)
