Search for C.O.P.S. 2013 launched in Region 1

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – The search for outstanding police officers for 2013   has been formally launched at the Concord building of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) here on Feb 4.

The search for the Country’s Outstanding Police Officers in Service (COPS), an annual nationwide competition,  was launched after the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the said purpose by the Metrobank Foundation Inc., the Rotary Club of New Manila East (RCNME), the Philippine Savings Bank and the Philippine National Police (PNP).  COPS emphasizes on community policing and the maintainance of peace and order as a shared responsibility between the police and the community.

The search also aims to honor active members of the PNP who significantly contributed outstanding police service in crime prevention and solution, and who had actively implemented programs that motivate the community to become partners in ensuring peace and order.

Present during the event were Danilo Fausto and Fred Nacpil, former presidents and governors of RCNME District 780,  Jenny Role, Assistant Regional Director of Philippine Information Agency (PIA-RO1), and the chiefs of police and other officers from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan and La Union.

“Despite being adjudged sometimes as the most corrupt agency, the PNP needs programs such as this to elevate their morale and to make known to them that many  of us outside the service or in the civilian sector still recognize their selfless service and sacrifices,”  Fausto stressed.

Ten winners consisting of  4 Police Commissioned Officers (from police inspector to police superintendent) and 6 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (from police officer 1 to senior police officer ) shall be given the COPS award which is also a career service award.

For 2013, each winner will receive a COPS trophy, a PNP outstanding achievement medal and a cash prize of Php 300,000.00.

Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo C. Marquez, Region 1 police director, encouraged all deserving police personnel to join the search to help showcase the best practices and accomplishments of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1).

“Police officers also deserve awards especially during these times because when we are continuously subjected to public scrutiny, incredible and inspiring stories need to be told to become symbol of light, hope and inspirations and for the sake of future generations,” the regional director added.#
