Sec. Cristobal heads DTI’s last ditch activities

SAN ILDEFONSO, ILOCOS SUR – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Adrian Cristobal, Jr. formally inaugurates the opening of the P12M Ilocos Fabrication laboratory at the Philippine Science High School (PSHS), May 26 in this town as one of the many highlights of the DTI’s 2-day Negosyo Konsyumer Program which kicked off at the Vigan Convention Center in Vigan City.

The fab lab is a one-building facility equipped with hi-tech equipment for tarpaulin, T-Shirt and sticker printing, miniature molding through laser beam, woodcarving and cloth designing, all computer aided and operated.

“This lab is not only a big help to the PSHS scholars as it will boost their science and technology knowledge but will also help the Micro, Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) as the lab will serve as a modeling facility for their products for mass production,” he said.

The fab lab was only one of the many projects launched by the DTI prior to the advent of the Duterte administration. Cristobal is co-terminus with his position and will step down once President Benigno Aquino’s term expires this June.

Cristobal’s last ditch projects included, among others,  seminars on intellectual property rights, business expenses and savings training, product critiquing, consumer forum, expanding business, negosyo center services, shared facility photo exhibits and the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan where goods and office supplies were sold at 10% discount at the Sta. Elena Sports Complex.

“Our main targets for training here are the MSMEs by providing them with the necessary training and technical aids so as to boost further our economy which has risen from an average of 6.2% to 6.9% last year,” he said.

Along with Cristobal in the May 26-27 DTI activities were Regional Director Florante Leal and Assistant Secretary Blesila Lantayona. (EDWARD B. ANTONIO)
