DAGUPAN CITY – At least 217 high school and college students across the country have chosen a Shrimp School in Pangasinan for their internship program.
Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the National Integrated Fisheries and Technology Development Center (NIFTDC), said the number is the biggest by far that they have catered to.
“Gustong-gusto natin ito para dumami ang mga fishery scientists sa ating bansa,” Rosario said during the KBP Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency office on Thursday.
Rosario said the trainings given to the students depend on their chosen field of expertise and the number of hours required of them.
Some of the OJTs are from Zamboanga del Sur, Surigao, Marinduque, Romblon, Ilocos Norte and some from Philippine Science High School.
Rosario also asked for help and support from the Philippine National Police for the security of the big number of trainees.
The Shrimp School is located at the sprawling NIFTDC compound under the auspices of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Brgy. Bonuan BInloc, this city.#
