Tagudin town defends ‘Regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi’ title

TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur – Tagudin, a first class municipality in Ilocos Sur, once again qualified for the Regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi 2012 Search last July 11 with seven other municipalities from Region 1.

The Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (GPL) is a total award concept given to provinces, cities, and municipalities that have shown exemplary performance in administrative, social, economic and environmental governance.

Exemplary performance information is drawn from the database of the online Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS), Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH), international organization or national government agency-bestowed awards and acknowledged innovations.

Members of the validating team include Sharwyn Sangel, local government operations officer (LGOO) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-1), Alona Lyn Garcia, LGOO of DILG-1 and Vincent Adorna, national president of Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) Association of the Philippines.

Tagudin Mayor Roque Verzosa is elated with the outcome of the validation.

Prior to the validation, the local government unit (LGU) prepared a short program where Tagudin’s profile, its innovative programs and practices, and its Electronic State of Local Development Report (e-SLGR) were presented. A one-on-one interview was also held where validators mentioned the good and excellent points of the LGU and things that need improvement.

The award has two levels, the regional award which is give annually and the national award which is given every three years.

To qualify for the regional award, an LGU should have an LGPMS Overall Performance Index (OPI) of four and is an SGH Silver Recipient.

To qualify for the national award, a LGU should be a Regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Awardee and has LGPMS OPI average of 4.31%, three Silver Awards and any National Awards on Governance.#
