In My Eyes

By Edward Antonio

Time is gold, so the saying goes, fellas.

I agree.

Sometimes, people are so occupied that they value every minute of their time dividing what they are supposed to do. There are those who do not have time anymore for their families or for themselves. They love their work more than themselves. There are also those who do not know what to do with their time. They have lots of time that they do not know how to spend it.

How valuable is time, fellas?

There this story about a person who worked long and hard and made a great career. One day he decided to rest from his work and to spend his time in luxury and pleasure, which he could afford because of his wealth.

Just as he was about to go out, prepared to spend the day with the itinerary in his hand, the angel of death came to him.

“Well, it’s your time to come with me,” Death said, summoning the wealthy man.

Being a very wealthy person, he decided to buy some more time from the angel of death at any cost. He bargained for a long time but the angel was unmoved.

Desperate, the rich man made another proposal to the angel: “Give me just one hour of my life, so that I could admire the beauty of this earth for the last time and spend some time with my family and friends and show my love to them and I will give you all my wealth.”

But the angel refused again.

Finally, the man asked if the angel could give him at least one minute so that he could write a goodbye note. His wish was granted and he wrote a note:

“Spend your time, which was given to you, in the right way. I couldn’t buy even an hour of my life with all of my wealth. Love yourself, love your family and spend time with them, for they are what you are working for.”

Time is really this gold, fellas.

Time wasted is never returned. Time is valuable everyday, for an hour that passes unproductively and with no value is an eternity of waste to those who know how to value their time.

But what is time without love?

An anecdote on time and love goes this way:

Many years ago all feelings and emotions have gathered to spend their vacation on a coastal island. Each of them was having a good time, but one day a warning came that a storm was coming and everyone had to leave the island.

This caused panic and all rushed to their boats.  Love tarried behind for she thought that there was so much to do. Love was the last to go. But no boat was left and Love looked around with hope.

As Prosperity was passing by in her classy boat, Love implored: “Please, take me in your boat“. But Prosperity replied: “My boat is full of gold and other precious possessions; there is no place for you.”

Then Vanity came by in a lovely boat. Love asked: “Vanity, could you take me in your boat? Please, help me.”      But Vanity said: “No, your feet are muddy and I don’t want my boat to get dirty.”

Next came Sorrow passing by and Love again called for help. But Sorrow said: “I am so sad, I want to be by myself.”

Then Happiness came by and Love asked for help, but Happiness was too happy; she was hardly concerned about anyone.

Suddenly somebody called out: “Love, I will take you with me”. Love did not recognize her savior but just gratefully jumped in.

When everyone had reached safe place, Love got off the boat and looked for Knowledge. Love asked: “Knowledge, do you know who helped me when everyone else turned away?”

Knowledge smiled: “That was Time, because only Time knows Love‘s true value and what Love is capable of. Time knows well that only Love can bring peace and happiness to everyone.”

What does this story mean, fellas?

Sometimes, we have time but not quality time. We may have time for our family but we do not show how much we love them.

In other words, let us spend our time not only wisely but full of love in everything we do.

In that way, time is really gold. Nonoy Zuniga says it best:

“What is time without love

What is love without time

What’s the highest mountain like without a valley nestled at its feet

What’s a river without a bend to guide its flow to where it should end?”#
