Top performing LGUs in Region 1 cited in RDC Awards

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan,  –  Top performing local government units (LGUs) in Region I  were cited anew in the annual Regional Development Council (RDC) Performance Awards for the Governance sector on April 20.

Mary Jane Cacanindin, senior development specialist of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), said  performing local government units were awarded in three categories: Search for Best Non-Government Organization (NGO)–Local Government Unit (LGU) Partnership; Search for the Best LGU Best Practices (project level); and Search for the Cleanest, Safest and Greenest LGU.

For Best Non-Government Organization (NGO)–Local Government Unit (LGU) Partnership: Champion – City of  Laoag  in partnership with the Government of Laoag Employees Development Cooperative (GLEDCO); Second – Municipality of San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte in partnership with the San Nicolas Bawang Association;  Third –  Piddig Basi Multi-Purpose Cooperative took home the third place;

Best LGU Best Practices (project level): champion and Hall of Famer – LGU  San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte; Special recognition – City of Laoag and the province of Ilocos Norte;

Cleanest, Safest and Greenest LGU: Champion and Hall of Famer for the  Province level – Pangasinan; Ilocos Norte – first runner-up; Ilocos Sur – second runner-up;

City Category: Champion – Laoag City; City of San Fernando in La Union province – second; and City of Alaminos in Pangasinan – third;

Municipality Category, Municipality A (1st-3rd class): Champion – LGU Naguilian in La Union; San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, second; and Santo Domingo in Ilocos Sur, third;

Municipality B  (4th-5th class): Champion – LGU Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte; LGU Santol in La Union, second; and Sta. Maria in Pangasinan, third;

Inland Body of Water Category: LGU Paoay in Ilocos Norte, Champion and Hall of Famer; Sto. Domingo in Ilocos Sur, second; and Sta. Maria in Pangasinan, third;

The updated guidelines and criteria in the conduct of the RDC Performance Award is embodied in Resolution No. 57 series of 2015 and were utilized during the Circa 2015 RDC Performance Awards, Govern-ance Sector.

The Regional Development Council was formed to provide an effective coordination mechanism for the integration of development efforts of member agencies/institutions along the following sub-sectoral areas of concern: development communication, security and development, development finance  and development administration.
