VIGAN CITY – The city of Vigan is now celebrating its brightest festival with RANIAG: Vigan Twilight Festival 2018 from October 18-25, 2018.
“Raniag” means “light” in the local dialect. The festival was founded by former Vigan City Mayor Eva Singson Medina and is held annually towards the last week of October as a run-up to the observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1. Traditionally, Filipinos light candles to remember the dead, and the festival is meant to symbolize an offering of light to commemorate and give thanks to departed loved ones.
The highlight of the festival includes the Flight of Skylanterns scheduled in the evening of Oct 22 at the Jardin de Caridad, where participants will release floating lanterns into the night sky. Residents and tourists can also participate in a candle-floating ceremony along the Govantes river boardwalk in the evening of Oct 23.
Other activities lined up include the World Costume Festival Exhibit, Jack o’Lantern making contest, DOTA II Vigan City Cup, Horror House at the tourism center in Crisologo St, drive-in movie marathon at the carpark behind the Vigan Convention Center, and a Haloween rave party. (TNM)
