VIGAN CITY, Mar 12 (PIA) – This city is giving a treat to women in celebration of the National Women’s Month.
With the theme, “Kababaihan, Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan” (Women, Guide Towards a Straight Path), this world heritage city has lined up a series of activities to mark the event throughout the month of March.
The event kicked off with a gender advocacy parade last March 1 followed by city strategic plan results, free medical and dental services.
Celerina Agcamaran, city social welfare office, said other activities include free pap smear, women products trade fair, free haircut, film showing of documentary films on environment and gender sensitive movies, bingo socials, and women products display center.
On March 15, the Child Protection Network, Inc, (CPNI) in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), held a leadership training for non-government organization leaders.
Participants were given learning on the advocacy on violence against women and their children, myths on sexual abuse, and the fundamentals of leadership.
Women residents were also involved in recollection, tree planting, lecture on seed propagation, community picnic, dance exercise and extra challenge and a search for healthy pregnant women.
The event highlights included the awarding of the 2013 Ulirang Ina and 10 outstanding women. A Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution of Commendation was presented to Dr. Ocarna Figuerres and Solita Evangeline Banez.
To strengthen these activities, a program on advocacy on women is aired over local radio and television throughout March.#
