VIGAN CITY – The Vigan city government and the Child Protection Network Foundation Inc. (CPN) have signed an agreement to protect women and children from abuse, violence and trafficking.
The agreement, signed between the Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina and CPN Executive Director Dr. Bernadette J. Madrid, paves the way for the establishment of a child protection network in the city.
The parties agreed to to ensure the well-being of children so that they will enjoy good health, education, care, protection and participation in the family and community.
As per agreement, the city through a lying-in facility, commits to address sexual abuse and other forms of violence against women and children by serving as “one-stop-shop” for the investigation and treatment of victims of child sexual abuse, violence against women, trafficking in persons and other similar crimes, through a multi-disciplinary approach.
For its part, the CPN shall sponsor the costs of tuition fees for the Women and Child Protection Unit (WPCU) team composed of a physician, a social worker and a WPCU police officer.
It will monitor the on-line training of the WCPU team and implement its on-site training evaluation at the Philippine General Hospital-Child Protection Unit (PGH-CPU) to instruct the team in the skills necessary to provide quality medical and multi-disciplinary care for abused and neglected children and their families.
The CPN produced a video which shows how “compromised” children, as many as 20,000 are seriously and repeatedly abused in their homes.#
