This portion presents the research design, the date gathering technique used in the study and the treatment of the data.

A descriptive method of research was used in this study. Preliminary activities were undertaken to determine the direction of the study, its objectives as well as the respondents involved in this study.

In this study, a representative convenience sample of eighty students who hail from Abra were taken as respondents.

The main tool used in gathering data was the questionnaire adopted from a psychology book but was modified by the researchers to fit the objectives of the study. Letters of requests were given to authorities securing their permission to float the said questionnaires.

Identified Abraenios enrolled in the University of Northern Philippines were tapped as respondents. They were given questionnaires to answer. The retrieval of the said materials was done after several days.

The instrument used covered five aspects, namely: a. socio-demographic profile of the respondent, b. instrument to assess their values, c. frequently encountered inner states d. behavior rating scale/ social adjustments and e. needs assessments.

Coding of responses was done manually by the researchers but the statistical computation was done through the SPSS.

The following were utilized in the treatment of the data gathered: Frequency count and percentage; Ranking and Pearson Product Moment Correlation.

DISCUSSSION OF RESULTS

Socio-demographic Profile of the Respondents

In the analyzed table, almost one half ( f: 39) of the respondents are aged 18-20 while there are 32 students whose age fall under bracket 15-17 years. The rest ( f: 9) are above twenty years old.

This indicates that the respondents are young, and indeed they are in their collegiate schooling years.

With regard to their sex, there are more female respondents than males which shows that the former enjoy more educational benefits for being in the academe.

The respondents revealed that more than one half of them ( f: 45) graduated from private schools. This would imply that there could be a possible dearth of public schools in Abra. Or the respondents might have preferred private education based largely in the accessible towns of the province since they have the opportunity to rent a boarding house. It must be noted that walking several kilometers of dirt, unpaved and winding road before reaching a national high school is one feature of a hilly terrain. Hence, they stay in boarding houses while attending private education.

The much preferred course among the Abraenios is nursing or something related to Health profession followed by Business and Education. This could be a reflection of the general psyche of Filipinos of going abroad and work as medical and nursing assistants or care givers. This is one way of alleviating their economic plight of not having viable and productive work here in the country.
