Nation observes Women with Disabilities Day

BOCAUE, Bulacan – Women with disabilities in the entire country including their advocates will celebrate the 13th Women with Disabilities Day at the Philippine Arena, Ciudad de Victoria here on March 28, 2017.

Through Proclamation No. 744 issued on December 6, 2004 “Declaring the Last Monday of March Every Year as Women with Disabilities Day”, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) spearheads the celebration with the Department of Justice (DOJ) as chair of the National Working Committee in this year’s celebration.

Various activities that will be conducted on this occasion include the mounting of booths containing information materials, services/trainings by government agencies and non-government organizations; trade fairs and bazaars of products made by persons with disabilities particularly women with disabilities; cultural presentations thru song and dance numbers of talented persons with disabilities particularly women; and testimonies of women leaders with disabilities.

President Rodrigo Duterte will grace this year’s celebration together with other guests that include Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, governors and mayors from Regions 1, 3, 4-A and the National Capital Region.

Marian Rivera-Dantes, designated Ambassadress for Women and Children with Disabilities, will deliver an inspirational message which will give emphasis on the theme, “Babaeng Maykapansanan, Manguna at Manindigan Tungo sa Pagbabago.” (Tawid News/IECD-NCDA)
